Shadow Work

The shadow is the part of ourself that we have pushed away, rejected, hidden, repressed, or do not like to admit and see about ourself. In an interview with, Debbie Ford, referred to the shadow as looking at the worst part of ourself. It is the part we rejected, because somebody made them wrong. It is the inner child that may have been teased, judged, and told what they can and cannot be. It is the part that need love. It is the wounded inner child that was told to shut up, and she/he shut down. It is the part that is hurt, and more compassion is needed for ourselves. Debbie further said that once we shine light, there is no darkness. Getting to a place of total self acceptance that nothing needs to be changed and letting go of the burden of fixing myself is by confronting our shadows. We are then able to communicate at an authentic level, from our core self.

“The evolution of one’s own soul is a process. It’s not a quick fix. It’s not a five day workshop. It’s a lifetime process where we let go, discover and then allow for futures to come into existence. Through connecting to our soul, to our collective heart, we can become congruent with our deepest values and our life mission. We can then allow for the realities which are always available to us to unfold. As we all have heard, love is the answer. Indeed it is, but it’s not just the loving of our good self, of our good qualities. True love is embracing our dark impulses, our imperfections, our mistakes and our heartache. That is when one reconnects and experiences the love that is truly the answer.” (Debbie Ford)

My personal soul work has taken me on a hell of a roller coaster ride. The closer I came to what felt of divine light, the more I seeped into a deep darkness. I describe it as a black hole of sorts, falling into deeper depths. I shut down, felt impaired, unable to focus, concentrate, move in any successful or significant manner, and breathe freely.  All of the repressed material within me of toxic emotions, beliefs, thoughts and energies seem to engulf me, despite all the meaningful work I was doing to heal and shift. Recently, I have come to a place of giving more acknowledgement, validation and gratitude for myself.  My shadows have been emerging to the surface into my consciousness. Embracing and integration is taking time. It means nurturing myself everyday. Loving and accepting all parts of who I am. As I am doing this, I am gaining many wonderful tools and reclaiming gifts of creativity and empowerment.
